Case Study 16

Copyediting Multiple Poems

Student Name: Nicolas Muzala

Job Title: Student

Client’s Requirements: Nicolas needed his poems to be copyedited. As English is not his first language, he had some difficulty in getting his ideas across on paper. He needed his emotion to be shown in his poems and for people who have been in similar situations to resonate with his poems.

How We Helped: We first asked Nicolas what emotion he particularly wanted his audience to resonate with, and how he wanted to display this emotion. Once this was confirmed, we copyedited each of the poems to make sure that the English used would allow for the image created when reading the poems to be vivid and strong and allow for people to resonate with the poem. Some of the copyediting involved included changing the text size, font and style, and incorporating certain spelling and punctuation techniques for the image to be clear. We then advised Nicolas of some helpful tips on how to use certain words and punctuation in his future poems to ensure his intended image is portrayed and captures the attention of the reader.

End Result: We copyedited each of Nicolas’ poems within the agreed deadline. Nicolas was very happy with our work, and went on to leave us a review, follow us on social media, and refer us to some of his classmates. Nicolas was a very easy and respectable client to work with. To this day, Nicolas remains our client.
